Day 121 - $5,006

Today was the Blue Springs GOM Garage Sale - and we earned $231.10! I tried to get more people involved so we would have lot's of items to sell, but that didn't work out - so it was basically just the Feldmans selling our stuff. I need a new wardrobe anyway :) I'm not donating it yet though. As you remember, I'm putting together the big bowling event here in Blue Springs on Aug 21st. Well, I've been going from business to business trying to get sponsors. (it's going to take quite a bit of $$$ to rent the bowling alley) So far I have two for sure. Drum roll please...

Cricket Wireless (Blue Springs)

and

Bella Capelli Salon

That's the good news. A big thanks to them for sponsoring Give One Million!

Well... the bad news is I need about ten more sponsors for the event. That brings me back to the garage sale I had today. I'm going to keep working to get sponsors for the bowling event - if I can't get enough, I will use the garage sale money to help sponsor the event. That's the plan.

I'm still doing the big Facebook push. I'm trying to get one million fans on facebook. That way everyone can donate just one dollar and we reach our goal. Well this month, I set an intermediate goal of doubling our fans on Facebook. We need 460 by July 31st. We are at 269 right now. So if you aren't following GOM on Facebook yet - what are you waiting for??? click on the Facebook icon on the right, and then invite all your friends to "like" the page as well.

Last, do you have a blog? or a google account? FOLLOW THIS BLOG! Put a button on your blog or website. We NEED to get the word out! Or I guess I should say I NEED YOUR HELP getting the word out.

And Last, Last... Donate! There were some neighborhood kids that were helping us out at the garage sale today. One of them (11 years old I believe) donated $2 that he had. (FYI - We don't live in the richest neighborhood. I'll just say that comparatively speaking, this kid isn't really in the best position to just be giving away money.) This is what he said, " I feel good now. I donated to help the sick kids. Even if it was only two dollars." And I told him, "Two dollars is awesome bud! What really matters is that you gave up what you had to help someone else. There are a lot of people out there that have WAY MORE money than you do, that haven't even donated two dollars - so you should be very proud of that two dollar donation!"

Today is the last day for month 4. Only 8 more months to go folks. Unless someone makes a $4,500 donation tonight, I'm affraid we aren't going to make our month 4 goal. :( I guess we'll just have to make up for it next month! Month 5 here we come!!!

Day 55 - $1,676

Calling all bloggers! Do you have a blog? Do you have a website? Well, if you do... this is my official plea: Can you add a button to your blog? Can you write a post about Give One Million? And last, can you follow this blog?

I'm not just asking for no reason, let me explain why.

First, if you add a button to your blog or website just think of how many of your friends will see it and take a look. It's a great way to spread the word to your friends and family without being pushy. This way they can check it out on their own time.

Second, if you write a post that would be even better. That way your friends and family can't miss it. They may not notice the button right away - they will notice a post :)

Third, if you follow this blog your'e showing your support. The more followers - the more people will pay attention. We need to show the world were here if we ever want to reach one million dollars. Follow this blog, and tell the world you believe in Give One Million!

I really want to reach this goal of one million dollars in one year for St. Jude!!!!! If I didn't think it was possible, I wouldn't have tried. It's day 55 and so far I'm averaging $30.47 a day! That's pretty good if I do say so myself - but there's a long way to go - and a lot of people to reach!!!! Ask my wife, kids, and family - I spend just about every free minute thinking of/working on ways to get the word out -and if you can help in just some little way, you don't know how much that means! But you also need to remember this isn't about me - it's about the kids at St. Jude that are fighting cancer. It's about helping them.

I think one million in one year is possible. I just need some help... and support :)

Enter.... YOU!

Talk Soon,

David

Day 35 - $1,185

Today I'm introducing vacation homes for Give One Million.

From now on you will see another button on the left side of the blog. If you are going on a vacation this year - or know anyone that is - listen up! I negotiated a deal with my dad and his house down in Mazatlan Mexico. Here are the details:

He rents it out for anywhere from $600 to $800 a week depending on the time of year. He said that if someone donates $50 to Give One Million, he will discount the price $75 per week. Also, if you donate $100, he will discount the price $150 per week. It's a brand new 3 Bedroom/3bath home in Mazatlan!

So let's say you and your significant other decide it's time for a vacation. You invite two couples to go with you. Let's say you pick a week that goes for $600 (May-Nov). You donate $100 to Give One Million - So the rental cost would only be $450. As you have all noticed I like to do calculations... So let's look at this.

$450 + $100 donation = $550 Total Price for a week

$550 / 7 Days = $78.57 per day for everyone

$78.57 per day / 3 couples = $26.19 a day for portion

$26.19 * 7 days = $183

You can stay in a brand new house in Mazatlan for a whole week for $183!!! So here is the link to the webpage with all the details on the vacation home. His number is on there. If you call, just tell him David told you to call. And yes... that is Pa Feldman holding two giant fish...

Attention: Do you have a vacation home or cabin? Do you know someone that does? If you or anyone you know would like to support Give One Million by setting up a deal like this please let me know! I will add your vacation home or cabin, and provide details for perspective vacationers! You can support Give One Million, and rent your property at the same time. It's a win/win situation!

Day 23

BUTTONS

This will be a good way to get the word out about Give One Million for St. Jude. The more blogs we can get these on the better. Some of these are created with my temporary logo. The official logo is in the works and should be done in a couple weeks – I was too impatient to wait.

Below you will see a picture of each button. Under each button is the HTML code that can be used to add the button to your blog. All you have to do is:

1. Copy the HTML code
2. Go to your blog in the layout section
3. Click to add a gadget wherever you would like it on your blog
4. Click on the HTML/Javascript option
5. Paste the HTML code you copied and save.
6. View your blog and click the button to ensure it works

Boom! You now have a Give One Million for St. Jude button. Welcome aboard!

Day 20

So we're almost to the three week mark and so far, so good. We're at $300 as of now, so we are staying just about at our average of $100 a week. I'd be extatic if somone would make a donation that forced me to reference the median dollar amount as opposed to the mean when referring to our average donations on a weekly basis. (That last sentence is exactly why my wife says I'm a nerd :) -but that's a shout out to all the statistics geeks like me out there...)

I know you're dying to know what I've been up to the last couple days so here it goes...

1. You may have noticed I added a Give One Million One Minute Summary button over to the side. There is a purpose to it... Since we will be telling everyone to follow what we're doing here, there will be a lot of people randomly "happening" upon this blog. And it may be a little confusing or generate some questions when they first visit. When they visit and read the random post that happens to be first in line... I can see people asking themselves questions such as:

"Who is this guy?"

Or

"What the heck is this guy doing?"

Or

"Why is he doing this, and is it legit?"

Etc, Etc, Etc...

So... Now they have a place to click that will give them the one minute summary about what we are doing here at Give One Million for St. Jude. And then they will donate!!! :)

2. I've pretty much given up on High Schools to host an event, and moved on to Elementary Schools. They seem to be much more receptive. I'll keep you updated on that. Insurance for the event doesn't seem to be an easy topic either. After my wife made a few calls today, we're still at square one as far as that goes. hmmm.

3. The Give One Million logo is in the works. I've had some logo's submitted, that you may see bits and pieces of - but the official logo is yet to come. I will be working with a good friend/awesome graphic designer who is kind enough to help me develope it. But if it's going to be good... it may take some time.

4. I'm working on making some buttons/widgets for YOUR blog! I am trying to make quite a few, so you have something to choose from. I don't have our official logo yet, but I still wanted to make these buttons in the meantime. They will have to do until we get better ones.

5. I have been thinking about other ways to physically raise money off-line. besides the pancake breakfast, I will be making calls and setting up other activities as well. If you want to host an activity in your town for Give One Million - just let me know - That would seriously be cool, and I'd do everything I could to help.

So that's a good summary of the last two days or so. I have a day job I have to get to tomorrow morning (or should I say later this morning) so I better hit the hay. Keep telling everyone you know http://www.giveonemillion.blogspot.com/ !!!!! So far we've raised $300 for the kids at St. Jude - let's keep it going!

Goodnight,

Dave
