Day 337 - $18,734

OK everyone. Now is the time for our last push to reach our goal. We have less than a month left to reach one million dollars so if you are going to organize a GOM event - now is the time to start planning. Remember!!! March 25th is the cutoff. If you're going to send emails to friends, now is the time. If you are going to invite all your facebook friends, now is the time. If you are going to donate - or have your family/friends donate, now is the time. Come on everyone... we've raised almost $2ok!!! Let's not stop there! Let's reach one million just like we set out to do.

OK. So here's a challenge.... I'm working on a Give One Million for St. Jude video right now. I think most of you know that. You've probably seen all my other videos I have posted on Youtube as well right? Well... now it's your turn. For this last month everyone out there make a video telling the world about Give One Million and how we're trying to raise one million dollars in one year for the kids of St. Jude. Ask them to donate. Ask them to help. Ask them to make a video and pass yours along. Make it funny. Make it serious. Have it be just you. Make it with a bunch of friends. Anything (appropriate) goes. Just make the video and send it to me (by March 15th - the sooner the better). I'll then post it here on this blog, on FB, and post it on the GOM Youtube Channel too. Let's flood the internet with GOM videos and reach our goal!

Send videos to giveonemillion@hotmail.com

David

Day 325 - $18,708

Well, tomorrow is Valentine's Day. If you remember... one year ago on that day is when the idea of Give One Million was born. And now over 700 Facebook fans (Hallelujah!!!), 5 Twitter followers (the whole Twitter thing didn't take off quite how I hoped...) almost $19k raised, a few fundraisers, and a couple Youtube videos later... here we are! Not too bad. We're not at a million yet - but we haven't stopped trying.

So we actually have quite a few things we're working on.... Ma Feldman has a bunch of things planned in Idaho - so for all the Idaho Give One Millionaires, stay tuned for that. I'm just trying to finish up this video I'm working on. We will be filming on Friday and Saturday. I'm working on getting extras, and actually landed a couple today... but I still need about 20 more. I wrote the Story Board tonight, and I'll be tweaking that throughout the week. Once we wrap filming on Saturday - I'm guessing it will take a week or so of editing to get it out. I'm not really trying to build this video up... I'm just talking about it a lot because that's really the main thing I'm working at the moment - so that's what's on my mind. hopefully since I'm talking about it so much, it turns out good.

Day 318 - $18,599

Thank you to everyone that put on and came out to the work out on Saturday in Vancouver! According to my calculations... You raised $512!

As Nacho Libre would say: That's Fantastic!

So for the life of me... I can't seem to figure out how to pass the 700 fan mark on Facebook! I think I have maxed out my sphere of influence. I'm afraid my acquaintances have given me the "mute button". I hope not, but after almost a year of soliciting donations for GOM... I'm wondering if that's the case :(

I was speaking to a lady on the phone the this week who spent her entire 35 year career as a professional fundraiser, and she was telling me something I already know... and have been trying to address for some time -but when she said it... it just reinforced how true it is, and how I can't avoid doing any longer:

"You have to expand past your circle of friends and acquaintances. You have to do bigger projects that reach people you don't know. You can only hit up your family and friends so many times. Pretty soon, when people see you, they'll start running the other direction."

I've been trying to do that since I started this whole thing... but it's easier said than done.

Hmmmm.

So for the last couple months, I am going to try and do that. I see the Internet as a good medium to expand in that way. YouTube is a good way... I think. Videos are good. I'm working on one right now that I hope generates some buzz. What other ways can I reach people outside my sphere of influence? Any ideas? Anything you can do? If you're reading this and don't know me please help me by spreading the word about GOM to your friends :)

Day 126 - $5,029

Here it is! I finally made the video for the Sonic fundraiser we had last month. I hope you like it.

I've been busy trying to get this bowling event together. I know I keep saying this - but I'll be making an official post on that soon. But I'm up to 5 sponsors now! So I think I may actually pull if off. I'll have LOTS of cool prizes and items for the raffle and silent auction. So if you are in the KC area - this is a must attend event!

If you're in Idaho Falls - don't forget about the Give One Million garage sale on Saturday! Make sure you stop by and show your support while you pick up some cool items.

It will be at 492 Logan Drive, Idaho Falls, ID - That's on the corner of Logan Dr. and John Adams Pkwy.

Everyone!! We only have a couple more days to reach 460 fans on facebook! Please help me reach that goal if you can. Invite all your friends to follow GOM on facebook.

Now... moving along... Month 4 is over. Unfortunately, I didn't make my goal of $4,800 for month 4 :(

I'm not very happy about that. I can't tell you how much I was racking my brain, trying to figure out a way to get the donations we needed for month 4 - but I just couldn't figure it out. But the past is the past. Not much I can do about it now - except make up for it in month 5. So that's exactly what we'll do. But, as always - I'll need help. The garage sale in I.F. is on the 31st, the 5k in Provo is on Aug 7. The bowling event is on Aug 21st. So we have a couple events set up already.

Is there something you can organize and do in month 5 to help?

Day 61 - $1,806

Hi Everyone - sorry it's been so long since the last post, but as you'll soon see... I've been busy! Thank you everyone for the donations! We are keeping with the goal of exponential growth. And not a day too soon since tomorrow marks the two month milestone. In month one we raised $600. And so far in month two we've raised $1,206, (We still have a day left - I would be more than happy if I had to change my month two total!!!) for a grand total of $1,806.85! So next month we need to raise $2,400. Can we do it??? The answer to that is yes...

So here is what you've all been waiting for!! Here is the video I've been working on. (By the way - it's a lot of work to make a 2 minute and 27 second video! Sheesh!) I submitted it to Ellen DeGeneres, and hope she can help... It's also on YouTube. Many late nights have gone into this - I hope you enjoy - and keep your fingers crossed that I get a call from Ellen!!!

Day 17

Calling All Followers!!!

If you are here on this blog - reading this post - I'm going to assume you care just as much as me about fighting cancer, and more specifically childhood cancer. So if that's the case, why not follow this blog??? Do you see that little sidebar title down to the right that says FOLLOWERS... Well - that's what I'm talking about. Follow this blog, follow Give One Million on Twitter, and follow Give One Million on Youtube and Facebook (when I get those up and running).

Just to convince you, I'll list the top five reasons you should follow Give One Million.

5. When we reach our goal - you'll be able to tell your friends you were one of the first to follow.

4. Since you'll be up-to-date on everything - you will be able to help out when you can.

3. You'll show your friends and family that you are supporting something to find a cure for cancer

2. It will help me know that I'm not staying up until one in the morning every night chronicling this goal for no reason. (OK - maybe that's a little selfish on my part - but it's nice to know that someone out there is listening - and actually cares about what we're doing here)

And the number one reason to follow Give One Million is...

1. With every donation, and all your support - you will literally be helping kids that have been diagnosed with cancer and the families of kids with cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Anything you can do to help and support them is a good thing!

OK - I'm just thinking out loud here - but go with me for a minute. Imagine if Give One Million had 10,000 or 20,000 or 30,000 followers? Just think what we could do to reach our goal of one million dollars. Melissa (my wife - for those of you that don't know me) came up with a great idea: Dollar Day. We tell all of our followers that such and such a date is dollar day. Tell all of our followers that on that day (whatever day it is) to donate just one dollar. that's it. Just one dollar. Well, if I get half of my followers to donate $1 on that day - and let's say we have 20,000 followers for this example - that means we earn $10,000 in one day toward our goal!!! Do you get where I'm going with this... That's just one idea of something we can do if we get people following what we're doing here.

So are you in? Good!

Day 12

This is what I've been up to the last couple days:

I submitted an add on craigslist (KC)

I tried to post an add on KSL.com multiple times but couldn't. I've posted on there in the past with no problems, but for some reason it's not letting me post... Frustrating!

I used one service on Fiverr.com in an attempt to get some increase visibility for Give One Million. I think I will continue with that.

I submitted giveonemillion.blogspot.com to Twitcause.

I started a YouTube channel. I haven't posted any videos there yet, but hopefully that will come in time. If you have a good video you think will help our cause - shoot me an email or leave a comment, and I'll see what I can to to get it posted. I'll add a YouTube badge to my sidebar as soon as I have an actual video there to watch :)

I contacted St. Jude to discuss the possibility of using their name and information to promote my pancake breakfast. It's looking good as far as that goes. Now I just need a location before I can make it official. I started making some calls today - I'll keep you posted on that.

And last, I've been spending countless hours (mainly on the internet) brainstorming and looking for ways to get the word out about Give One Million. Once again... any help with that would be greatly appreciated. Talk soon.
